Art therapy uses all sorts of creative modalities, but with me you will be focusing on visual art making in many forms to improve and to enhance your emotional and social well-being.
It is important to understand that there is no need to be skilled at art making to undertake art therapy. It is different from traditional art making in that the emphasis is on the process rather than the result. It works with individuals, couples and groups – both small and large by helping to identify feelings and blocks, and to clarify issues and concerns.
Art therapy is not about the therapist’s interpretation. That is not the therapist’s role here. The individual makes the interpretation and the sharing of this understanding is completely optional.
For Children & Adolescents
Both children and adolescents are often reluctant or not capable of talking about their difficulties. In this case, art therapy is very beneficial. They can express their feelings and recognise aspects of their situation previously unacknowledged. Children and adolescents are often able to find both joy and resolution from art therapy.
